The Case for Boring Deployments

A good deployment is barely an event

The deployment pipeline should answer three questions quickly:

• What changed?
• Did it work?
• Can we undo it?

When deploys are rare, they become ceremonies. When deploys are frequent and small, they become normal engineering hygiene.

That is the whole trick: make production changes ordinary enough to do carefully.
